Hardwood Nuances

Wood is a natural product and can have a wide range of color and graining. As such, it is not uncommon for two boards to be different.

Most woods darken with exposure to light. The majority of darkening occurs in the first six months but can take as long as a couple years.

  • During this period it’s important to move or rotate area rugs on a bi-monthly basis to allow for more uniform darkening.
  • If an area is underexposed or additional flooring is added later, be patient – unexposed areas will blend in with darker areas over time.
  • When using wood fillers or putty on a new floor, use a color that is slightly darker than the color of the floor at the time of installation.
